Power Outage Safety Tips
As we all prepare for Storm Stella, please take a few minutes to read
this Power Outage Safety Information from MEMA. In the event of a Power
Outage, please remind friends and family to only operate generators in
open areas away from windows.
Ways You Can Prepare Now:
•Keep your cell phone, laptop and other electronics fully charged.
•If your water supply could be affected by a power outage (well-water pump system), fill your bathtub with water.
•Set your refrigerator and freezer to their coldest settings (remember to reset them back once power is restored).
If Your Power Goes Out:
•Avoid downed power lines & assume they are live
•Do not call 9-1-1 to report power outages, report it to your utility. DO call 9-1-1 to report downed wires.
•Check in on friends, family, and neighbors, particularly those most
susceptible to extreme temperatures and power outages such as seniors
and those with access and functional needs.
•Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines when using a generator and always use outdoors.
