The Methuen Police Department is investigating an attempted
larceny of an ATM from the Sunoco Gas Station located at 119 Merrimack St.
On 12/31/16 at approx. 3:09 am, an older model Brown Honda
CRV (no plate) backed up into the glass by the ATM and shattered the window.
Two masked male suspects then entered the store and attempted to remove the
ATM. One suspect placed a chain around
the ATM while the other suspect was alerted by the clerk yelling at them. He
then threw a couple bottles of windshield washer fluid towards the clerk. The bottles landed on the floor in front of
the counter. The suspects didn’t say
anything to the clerk. When the vehicle
fled the store the chain must have come off of the ATM, which caught the front
door of the ATM and ripped it off. The
money was still intact in the ATM. The
vehicle was last seen heading down Merrimack St. towards Lawrence.
