Officers Investigate Shots Fired and Fight Call on Tenney St.
Last evening, patrol officers were called to the area of 143
Tenney St. around 7:54 p.m. for a report of a fight. Officers were able to speak with a witness to
the incident and obtain very limited information. They learned there was an altercation between
two males in the basketball court. A
relative of one of the males in the altercation came to the park and put a male
subject in a choke hold, making it impossible for him to breathe. The witnesses and victim did not know the
name of the suspect but were familiar with a relative of his who lives in the
area.
Around 10:00 p.m., all shift officers (along with Chief
Joseph Solomon) responded to the area of 164 Tenney St. (near the original
altercation) for multiple reports of shots fired in the area. Information obtained by witnesses indicated
that two male subjects were fighting in the street when another male subject
fired several rounds in the air. Four
9mm shell casings and one 9mm bullet were found at the scene of the second
incident. An Essex County Sheriff’s
Department K9 searched the area with Methuen units.
While investigating the shots fired incident, officers spoke
with the victim in the earlier altercation.
The victim was able to obtain the nickname (“Ish”) of the suspect. This subject, Ismael Torres Jr. (who goes by
the name “Ish.”) is well known to many officers on scene at the shots fired
call. The victim and a witness were able to
positively identify Torres Jr. as the suspect in the earlier altercation.
As a result of the investigation, Officer Dave Souther
obtained an arrest warrant for Ismael Torres Jr. for one count of Strangulation
- Suffocation (265:15D).
