At 3:06 pm, dispatchers received a call for a motor vehicle
accident involving a motorcycle and a cement truck on Howe St. in the area of
Pond St. The caller reported seeing
flames from one of the vehicles. Several patrol units responded to the scene
and discovered a motorcycle on fire underneath a cement truck. The Methuen Fire Department responded and extinguished
the fire.
Upon investigation, it was
learned that the motorcycle was stopped in the left lane on Pond St. waiting to
turn left. The cement truck was heading
north on Howe St. The driver of the
cement truck entered into the lane the motorcycle was in. The operator of the motorcycle was able to jump
off the bike before the cement truck entered the lane. The truck then drove over the motorcycle and
dragged it a short distance onto Pond St.
The driver of the cement truck was able to get out of the truck before
the motorcycle caught fire. No one was injured in the crash.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash is being investigated by Officer
William Kannan of the patrol division.
