On Sunday May 31, 2015 at approximately 12:39 P.M.  Methuen
Police and Fire responded to number 3 Russell Street, Methuen For a report of a
missing child, who could not be located and believed to have fallen into a

Emergency responders searched a back yard built in pool that was
covered. The pool water was dark and murky as responders searched in zero
visibility for the child. At Approximately 13:00 hours a 5 year old child was
located.   The 5 year old was transported to Lawrence General
Hospital by Methuen Fire Department Ambulance and was declared deceased at
approximately 2:27 P.M.

During the rescue a Methuen Fire Fighter sustained facial injuries
when he fell on the slippery stairs leading into the pool.

Preliminary information revealed the in-ground pool was covered
and had not been used in several years.   The child was being watched
by a 15 year old babysitter.   It appears the child exited the house
unknowingly and stepped onto the cover and fell in.
