IMPORTANT! At noon time today, Friday, February 8, 2013, Gov. Deval L. Patrick declared a state of emergency for Massachusetts. Governor Patrick has signed an executive order BANNING TRAFFIC on the state's roads as of 4 p.m. today, Friday. The ban includes all roads, with exceptions for public safety officials, hospitals, utilities and others.
The Law allows for penalties for motorists who violate the 4 p.m. ban on traffic, including a $500 fine and up to one year in jail. The traffic ban is statewide and will last until it is lifted.
The ban includes exceptions that should allow all necessary functions to take place including travel to convenience, grocery and hardware stores WHEN IT IS SAFE.
Patrick said the emergency declaration, made at noon today, will help state officials to more speedily establish needed services, supplies and personnel.
