Chief Solomon and Methuen Police Launch Newest Social Media Initiative!

The Methuen Police Department’s newest social media, crime fighting and public outreach initiative is now available right on your Android or iPhone.
The app has 24 possible features and options. Some of the features include department contacts, push notifications, feedback & tips forms, as well as options to retrieve information from FEMA, the National Weather Service, and the National Terror Advisory System, Facebook & Twitter.  Other uses include links for wanted persons, videos, sex offenders, and blog posts.

The phone application or “app” can be downloaded free by searching for My Police Department or MyPD in the iPhone or Android marketplace.  The police app is available to the public free of charge and is also free of any advertisements. Once downloaded you simply navigate to the Methuen Police Department.
“This police app is a great addition to our agency” said Chief Solomon “We can now push out notifications and alerts to the public and the public has a variety of ways to contact us and give us feedback.  The goal of our MyPD app is to give our public a one stop app option with plenty of features and to further expand the lines of communication.” Chief Solomon went on to say “The Methuen Police have been working on community outreach and crime fighting through social media for over two years.”  In the spring of 2012 they increased their Internet footprint with a variety of social media tools ranging from Facebook to YouTube. Chief Solomon said, “The great success of our social media campaign was seen during super storm Sandy and our recent Nor’easter storm NEMO. The two way communication between the PD and the Residents has thus far been a great asset and we look forward to continuing to promote these outreach tools.”
Users can choose not only the Methuen Police app but they also have the option to view other police departments on MyPD by choosing a different city or state. The app defaults to the last agency viewed upon opening, this makes it easy to always open right to the Methuen Police Department.
The department home screen contains a number of features with more located in the bottom menu which activates upon touch or swipe.

“Our app’s crime tips or questions and feedback features allow a user to choose a topic from the forms dropdown menu that best suits them and that message will then be routed to the Officer responsible for that area.” said Chief Solomon. “Forms can be sent anonymously to the department, but we encourage an email address or phone number if you would like a response. Users also have the ability to upload photos with the app tip and feedback forms.”

As is the case with our email, tip sites, and social media, our app is not for any type of emergency situation. The Methuen Police attempt to review all messages in a timely fashion but do not always monitor messages and activity at all times. The app is for routine questions and information sharing. 9-1-1 is always the method for emergency situations or response.

More app information can be found on the Methuen Police Facebook page at the MyPD app website
The Methuen  Police Tip, Commendation, and Feedback forms are also now available online from the department website and Facebook pages.  This provides new additional ways to send in tips or concerns.
Chief Solomon asks our citizens to try out our new app @MyPD and
“Come join us as we explore ways to communicate effectively with our residents and businesses, we look forward to connecting on-line.”
